ABOUT OUR CYCLING CLUB

A friendly Road and Gravel Cycling Club based in Marple. Suits keen cyclists who want to enjoy the company of other riders. Rides are planned for every Saturday and Sunday with additional Thursday evening rides in the summer months. A, B and occasional C graded rides cater for the very fit (A Rides), through to those seeking to try out group road or gravel riding for the first time, or returning to cycling after a break, (C Rides). A rides are typically 20-50 miles in length averaging 15 to 21 mph (depending on terrain). B rides are typically 20-50 miles in length averaging 12 to 17 mph (depending on terrain). C Rides may be 10 - 25 miles in length, averaging less than 11mph, with road craft and group riding instruction. We also like coffee, cake and beer.

CLUB HISTORY

SK6 Spinners was set up in 2016 by a group of enthusiastic road cyclists. Membership grew over the following 3 years with group rides regularly having 12 to 20 riders. Thursday evening rides in the summer were so popular we often had 3 different groupings to cater for speed. The post ride socialising at Marple Beer Traders has become a tradition for the Thursday evening rides. It’s a great opportunity to meet the members and learn more about the riding opportunities. Covid lockdown saw a change in in members riding habits. At first only solo rides were permitted. Then, as lockdown began to ease, maximum groups of 6 riders, socially distanced, began to flourish. Once lockdown was completely lifted, our members remained cautious about large gatherings. Covid was still a threat through 2022. SK6 Spinners is starting to bounce back as a vibrant club. In addition to Road riding we have a number of keen gravel riders and even an occasional mountain bike outing. We’re setting up groupings to cater for off road, social road riding, endurance road riding and shorter evening rides. Members have the opportunity to join as many rides as they wish and as the riding season progresses there will be more varied rides on offer.
